Wasn't sure where to post this...
Today was the sentencing for my childhood abuser. He abused me from the age of 12, and it culminated in rape when I was 17.
It was the first time since he raped me 7 years ago that I actually saw him face to face (I gave evidence from behind a screen). It was something I needed to do.
And by God, do I feel GOOD!
Almost the entire time, I stared at him. I held my head up high and stared at him. He could not bring himself to even look at me.
Before that moment (even though people kept telling me) I didn't feel good. But I realised that I AM the strong one. He is pathetic, not even able to look at me. I left feeling elated - I have faced the monster that has haunted my life, and I have realised he is nothing but a cowardly little weasel.
Plus - he was sentenced to 13 years!!!!
Absolutely thrilled today, I just had to share!

That is so awesome! Congrats! I reported about half a year ago and nothing has been done at all :/ how did you get the whole process going?

My case never made it anywhere. I made the report, made my statement, and then they said there's was no crime, so no charges were pressed.

Gaby, closure doesn't always come in the form of jail time or reporting. Closure comes from within you.

It's always so uplifting to hear about justice being served for rape survivors. Thank you for sharing your story.
